How to choose: the four figures that matter
In the wild a cat is both predator and prey: height reassures it and gives it a lookout. Indoors, the tree stands in for the tree. Four figures almost always settle the choice.
- Height. Under 1 m is a complement (kitten, older cat, second room). Between 1 m and 1.5 m, a main tree for a flat. Above 1.5 m you need a wide base or a wall strap; our floor-to-ceiling models (2.52 to 2.85 m) are tension-mounted.
- The base. It is what absorbs the landings. Ours range from 40 × 40 cm on small formats to 80 × 40 cm on some solid-wood models.
- Load rating. From 4 to 60 kg depending on the model. For a large cat or several cats, aim well above their combined weight.
- Material. Thick engineered panels covered with plush and sisal for most of the range; solid wood or pear wood on around ten models, heavier and easier to clean.

Choosing the right cat tree depends on several factors: your cat's size, weight, age, activity level, and how much space you have at home. A playful cat will need platforms, scratching posts, and varied heights. A large cat or a Maine Coon will need an XXL cat tree or a dedicated "Maine Coon" model, with wider platforms and a reinforced structure. For a small apartment, a compact yet well-designed small cat tree is perfect.
2. Is a cat tree really useful for an indoor cat
Yes, it's actually essential. A cat tree lets an indoor cat climb, burn off energy, watch over their territory from up high, and scratch somewhere other than the sofa. It gives them a reassuring space of their own, reducing boredom and stress. It's also a great way to build vertical territory, especially in an apartment.
3. What height and stability should I look for in a cat tree
The ideal height depends on your ceiling and your cat. The taller the tree, the more stable it needs to be: a wide base, a reinforced structure, and possibly wall anchoring for extra-tall models. Go for an XXL cat tree or a Maine Coon cat tree: wide platforms, reinforced resting spots, thicker posts, and a very stable structure. 5. How do I get my cat to actually use its cat tree
Some cats take to it right away, others need a bit of time. Place the cat tree somewhere your cat already likes to spend time (near a window or in the living room), add a blanket with their scent, place a few treats or toys on the platforms, and play with them around the tree. You can also rub a little dried catnip on the posts to encourage them to scratch there.
